Новая Франция
Французские владения в Северной Америке в конце XVI-XVIII вв. Простирались от р. Миссисипи [Mississippi River] до Гудзонова залива [Hudson Bay], включали Акадию [Acadia] и Луизиану [Louisiana]. Руководство колониями долгое время осуществляли торговые компании, а сама Франция из-за внутренних междоусобиц уделяла им мало внимания. В 1663 Людовик XIV ввел прямое правление, и колонии были значительно расширены, включив район Великих озер [Great Lakes] и всю долину Миссисипи. В результате Войны с французами и индейцами [French and Indian War] (1754-63) Луизиана досталась Испании (1762), а остальная часть колоний, в том числе Канада - Англии (по договорам 1760 и 1763).
